What Is YOUR Mission?

Why do you do what you do in life & in business? It is so important to be clear on your WHY.  If you aren’t clear, you will get distracted and worn out. No, not distracted…that isn’t the right word. In order to get distracted you have a target and then get off target. Without a mission, you are just wandering around letting other people determine your target. Don’t let other people determine your target! Get clear on your WHY so that you can be excited and focused and have a worthy thing to aim toward each & every day.

So, what is YOUR mission? Take some time to figure that part out. Find your target, then go for it! Once you are clear on your WHY then you can move on to your WHAT. And, if the target can be PRETTY too, then let’s do that! Because who doesn’t like to look at pretty things?!?! I want to share a fun way to make your target beautiful.

I just completed our family mission statement collage and LOVE it! I wrote a post on how to write your family mission statement a while back but I had been searching for a fun and updated way to display it. I finally found what I wanted and LOVE having this hanging in our home. It reminds us what we are to be about as we go about our day. Without having that reminder in front of us, it would be easy to get off track…way, way, way off track.

I’ll share just one example: Our girls are 8, 3, and 1 and I have to admit that I lost patience with one of my girls WHILE I was working on my collage!!! God showed me the humor in this as I was mod podging the words “PATIENCE” and “TO HELP EACH OTHER” onto the canvas. I had just lost patience with my child because she needed my help. Sigh. You see why I need a BIG BEAUTIFUL TARGET hanging in my home?!?!

We won’t always get it right. It will never be perfect. We will have rough moments. BUT I want us to keep our mission in front of us so we can keep our eye on our intent. I don’t want us to forget WHY we’re here.

So here’s the finished product:

Napier Family Mission Collage

Some other fun ways you could do this:

  • “I AM”: This is how the original artist, Mary Brack did it in her beautiful mosaic that I found on Pinterest. You can see her process and step-by-step photos in her post A Few Things
  • “WE ARE”: Use this approach for any team, classroom, group of friends, Church, etc.
  • “WE CHOOSE”: This is what I decided on for our family mission but can also apply to how you choose to run your business. (For my project, I mod podged the magazine pages and cardstock onto canvas.)
  • “I SERVE”: This one could be all about your ideal customer and getting very specific on WHO your ideal customer is and HOW you plan to serve her

Whether you love art projects or prefer to stick to making a list in a notebook doesn’t really matter though. What matters is that you take time to be intentional about what you are doing so that you aren’t allowing other people to determine your target. Take time to get clear on WHY you do what you do so that you are in better position to be on mission each & every day in your life and your business.
